It feels like April here in Southcentral Alaska with all the shin-high slush, flooded roads, and dirt of spring breakup. But, of course, it isn't. We’re still in February and the thaw should be many weeks away. Yet here we are, on rapidly thinning ice, wondering what these shifts in our seasons mean for the future of Alaska’s natural systems and ways of life.
Examining the impact of some of these climatic shifts, specifically the effect of 2019’s scorching summer on Alaska’s wild salmon, is a recent paper co-authored by our Fisheries & Communities Program Director, Stephanie Quinn-Davidson. You can access that paper below, alongside exciting news of our growing team, updates from our work in Bristol Bay, and a collection of the content that has sparked joy or curiosity for our team this past month. If you would like to connect with us or learn more about our work, please drop us a line. We would love to hear from you.

| "Climate change is here in Alaska. We are seeing it. We are feeling it. And our salmon are dying because of it." |
The summer of 2019 was marked by soaring temperatures, drought, and wildfires. Across the state wild salmon were found dead in streams and on riverbanks. This new paper, co-authored by our Program Director for Fisheries & Communities, Stephanie Quinn-Davidson, documents the die-off and its causes. Read it here.
